The technique of screen printing involves using a mesh material to cover parts of a substrate material with ink, with a blocking stencil restricting the spread of the ink.

Participants are expected to bring their own aprons and disposable gloves.

In compliance with Workshop Health & Safety regulations, all participants must wear closed-in shoes.
Tea and coffee will be provided.

Day 1: Students will learn about the following:
  • Use of negative and positive space
  • Cutting detail into the positive stencil
  • The 4 Rs of Design: Repetition, Rotation, Reversal, Reduction
  • Producing sketches on paper, and cutting out with blades from light-weight easy-cut paper
  • Use of positive stencil shapes, being laid out to tell a story, and negative stencil shapes
  • Placing shapes in repetition.
A printing demonstration will also be held.

Day 2: Students will learn about the following:
  • Inks, their properties, and their additives
  • The printing process using a screen and squeegee
  • Creating repeats from stencils
  • Colour blends and overlaying colour
  • Heat setting.
A question-and-answer session will also be held.
