WORKSHOP: Introduction to Book Arts (with Chris Hagen)
DATES: Saturday-Sunday, 22-23 October 2016
TIMES: 10am-4pm both days COST: $195 + $15 material cost Spots are limited, so buy your booking now! Books are a powerful form of expression, offering many possibilities and challenges to an artist. Learn basic forms and techniques that can be used to make journals, sketchbooks, and fully-realised artist's books. Introductory binding formats, concertinas, and books which may transform back into flat sheets of paper will be instructed. Participants are encouraged to bring samples of their art to learn how they may be incorporated. Participants are encouraged to supply their own notebook/visual diary, a utility knife/X-Acto, any papers desired for experimenting (magnani, Fabriano, Somerset, BFK, rice papers - a combination of heavy and thin papers is recommended), preliminary sketches and reference material, and spare magazines for the collage exercise. These items will be available for purchase on the day from the ArtWorld Studio Gallery Shop.
In compliance with Workshop Health & Safety regulations, all participants must bring their own aprons and wear closed-in shoes. Tea and coffee will be provided. |

Chris Hagen is a Brisbane-based artist, working in lithography, etching, photography, and book arts. Originally from Northern Wisconsin (USA), he attended the University of Minnesota Duluth for a BFA in photography and printmaking, Illinois State University for an MFA in printmaking, and studied at the Tamarind Institute of Lithography. Chris works as an educator and edition printer in Brisbane. |
