Darryl is an elder with the kubbi kubbi clan from what is known as the Sunshine Coast in Queensland. After a hard start in life and being an alcoholic at the age of 17, his life looked like it would follow a well known trajectory. Thanks to a divine encounter and the influence of a caring salvation army officer, Darryl started looking for ways that he could help others. He became Queensland’s first male aboriginal nurse. He worked as the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Prison Liason Officer and worked with the Queensland Government on the Alcohol Management Policy in Aboriginal Communities in Queensland. He has seen his more than his fair share of corruption and mistreatment. Yet he still chooses to do right by people and help those who need it most. Darryl has earned the respect with elders Australia wide. He continues to devote his life to helping others. He currently works with children from severely disadvantages homes, mentoring them and helping them overcome the challenges that the face at home or at school.
